About The department
The Department of English at Chopra Kamala Paul Smriti Mahavidyalaya has been an integral part of the institution since its inception, playing a crucial role in shaping the academic journey of students. Established in 2013 with the introduction of the General Course, the department has been dedicated to providing quality education in English literature and language. In 2019, the Honours Course was introduced, marking a significant milestone in the department’s commitment to academic excellence. The department has become a vibrant centre for learning, fostering intellectual curiosity and critical thinking among students.

Recognizing that many of its students are first-generation learners, the department places a strong emphasis on providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment. The faculty is dedicated to guiding students through their academic journey, offering mentorship and personalized support. Regular departmental activities such as student seminars, group discussions, essay writing competitions, and class tests are organized to ensure continuous engagement and skill development. These activities not only enhance students’ comprehension and analytical abilities but also build their confidence in articulating their ideas effectively.
To cater to the diverse learning needs of students, the department provides additional support to slow learners and first-generation students who may face challenges in grasping complex literary concepts. Faculty members extend their assistance beyond class hours, offering remedial classes and one-on-one guidance to ensure that every student has the opportunity to excel. Regular counselling sessions within the class are also conducted to address academic and personal challenges, fostering a nurturing environment that prioritizes student well-being.

Future Plan:
- Establishment of a language lab to provide hands-on training in phonetics, pronunciation, and practical communication.
- Strengthening library resources with more reference books, journals, and digital learning materials.

- Expansion of literary events and creative writing sessions to encourage student expression and literary appreciation.
The Department of English at Chopra Kamala Paul Smriti Mahavidyalaya remains committed to its vision of academic excellence and holistic student development. With dedicated faculty, dynamic learning strategies, and a student-centric approach, the department continues to empower learners, helping them build successful academic and professional careers.
Our College name Chopra Kamala Paul Smriti Mahavidyalaya is in memory of Kamala Paul. Her eligible sons donated the land for College, which is situated in Chopra Block, Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal. The college started from academic seesion 2013-2014 under North Bengal University. Now college has a total of Seven departments. The students can also avail the library facility.
